Under the slogan “Promoting Inclusion of People with Disabilities and Vulnerable Groups in the Formal Financial System,” the Iraqi Private Banks League, under the patronage of the Central Bank of Iraq and with support from the Financial Inclusion Project funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the European Union (EU), held an awareness workshop titled “Banking Awareness and Culture,” targeting individuals with disabilities and special needs.
The workshop aimed to introduce participants to modern banking services and educate them on how to protect their bank cards from financial fraud, as part of ongoing efforts to empower these groups and integrate them into economic activity.
Ali Tariq, Executive Director of the Iraqi Private Banks League, stated that these initiatives reflect the League’s belief, backed fully by the banking sector, that people with disabilities and vulnerable groups deserve equal access to modern financial services.
He noted that inclusion in the formal financial system is not only a social responsibility, but also a genuine investment in a more just and inclusive society. “Through these initiatives,” he added, “we reaffirm our ongoing commitment to empowerment, to supporting aspirations, and to accompanying these individuals on the path to financial independence and dignified living.”
At the close of the workshop, free bank cards and gifts were distributed by participating banks and electronic payment companies, underscoring the financial sector’s commitment to inclusion and its promotion of empowerment and equity.
