The Iraqi Private Banks League, in cooperation with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, organized a specialized training course titled “Risk Management and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) for Banks,” with participation from several banks operating in Iraq.

The course aimed to strengthen banking professionals’ capabilities in risk management and their understanding and application of ESG standards, helping improve banking practices and aligning them with international standards and best practices.

The training covered approaches to integrating environmental, social, and governance considerations into risk management frameworks and banking decisions. It also raised awareness of the role these standards play in supporting sustainability and improving the banking sector’s efficiency.

The course forms part of ongoing cooperation between the Iraqi Private Banks League and IFC to build Iraqi banks’ capabilities and support the adoption of international practices and standards in risk management, sustainability and governance, in line with efforts to develop Iraq’s banking sector.
